Hey Guys!
So since I last wrote an update, I have finally made it onto campus and started doing some lab work for my PhD! It’s honestly crazy how much I enjoy doing lab work even if it’s just something as simple as growing and counting cells! Being in the lab doing lab work really is my happy place where I can just forget about everything else, focus on what I’m doing and quiet all the noise.
I’ve been back in the lab now for about three weeks and I finally feel like we have a plan for my PhD and I can move forward with both the written literature review and get some data together for my progress review panel (PRP – think examined presentation to decide if you can continue with your PhD) which is just in time as I only have about four weeks left to submit a long list of documentation for my PRP! We have a detailed plan for how to move forward with the lab work and for the aims of my whole project which has given me such a sense of purpose its hard to explain. My next few weeks are going to be packed full of lab work and I honestly can’t think of a better way to spend my time!
I guess what I’m trying to say is find your happy place, that one place or activity or person that lets you quiet the noise and make the most of it. Spend time there and just get way from the stresses of the world for a while. I find it really makes a difference to my mental health and general outlook on life! I’m incredibly lucky to have my happy place be the lab which means I get to escape the world most days but even if you can only find a little bit of time to escape to your happy place, do it!
As ever, I’m always here if you need someone to talk to so just drop me a comment/email/message/carrier pigeon and I’ll be there!
Thanks for reading!
